Tim Martin
guitar, bass, voice
and mandolin

Tim Martin started teaching and playing music professionally in 1976. That’s 40+ years of experience. He is a multi-instrumentalist with stringed instruments. Guitar, bass, and mandolin, respectively. He is also an accomplished singer/songwriter.

Tim’s musical styles range from rock and country to blues and folk.

Fingerstyle, picking and strumming no matter what level you are on, he can help you advance your playing to the next level and beyond. Tim uses the Berklee School of Music books to teach music theory. He can also just help you learn your favorite new riff or song. Tim is ready and waiting to help you achieve your playing goals.

Tim has patience with his students and can teach them music fundamentals rather quickly. Tim’s approach will inspire students to want to learn more about their instrument and hone their craft.

Tim is teaching Monday-Friday and Saturdays and is now accepting students for guitar, bass, voice, and mandolin.

Tim Martin

Tim Martin started his solo career at the ripe age of 16 playing every Friday and Saturday evening at a restaurant called the Olde Tinker Mill Inn. It was a formal dining area upstairs with a pizza and beer meeting place downstairs. He would play for the diners upstairs during dinner then move downstairs for the later, livelier crowd. Building a song list of artists such as James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, CSN&Y, Eagles, and originals he developed his style. Getting paid 15 dollars a night and free pizza seemed like a good deal to the teenaged Tim. What this job did was help him learn how to be comfortable and entertaining on stage and find what kind of tunes worked with different audiences.

42 years later he is still going strong as ever. Tim has played and still works in clubs, resorts, festivals, concerts, and private functions across southwest Virginia such as The Hotel Roanoke, Wintergreen Resort, Primeland Resort, Snowshow, Greenbrier, Homestead and more. He plays local Roanoke clubs such as The Quarter, Awful Arthurs, Annie Moore’s Tavern, Brambleton Deli and more. He has shared the stage and opened for artist such as Savoy Brown, Vern Gosdin, Jonathan Edwards, Ted Nugent, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Little River Band, Southern Culture on The Skids and more. He has released two albums over the years. Real Life Dreamers in 1992 with his duo partner Mark Wilbourn and Wishes in 2000, both all original songs written by Tim.

The Tim Martin Duo with Brian Wheeling formed in 2008. Based around the music from Tim’s past solo and duo acts, Brian brings his unique playing style and sound in with his vocals and bass.

The duo covers songs from The Beatles, Everly Brothers, Tom Petty, Eagles, Bryan Adams, Zac Brown Band, Jason Isbell, Dave Matthews, and other artists that are both timeless and current. The Tim Martin Duo have great harmonies and the sound of a full band in duo size. We enjoy fun banter with the audience and are great for listening, dancing, or singing along.

Tim and Brian have a regular show at the Brambleton Deli in Roanoke every the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month. Plus, several clubs in the area and private functions and festivals. Check ‘em out!

Melissa Mesko plays with numerous groups in the Blue Ridge area, including Melissa and the Growlers, Meskos Electric Revue, and several acoustic groups. She’s lived in Nashville, St. Augustine, and Oxford MS, where she was a founding member of an Oxford favorite, The Sweetbush Revival, who won the Smith Vinson Award for songwriting and was honored back in 2004 to have an original song featured on the Beanland: Rising from the Riverbed DVD, which documents the rise of Beanland (the band that spawned Widespread Panic).
